Dragon Bloodstone Necklace

Dragon bloodstone, which is also called Dragon Blood Jasper, is a really gorgeous stone. I got this one at the very first gem show I went to, and I completely forgot to even write down what it was. Thankfully, I have some lapidary friends who quickly re-identified it for me.

It's a green stone with red spots and veins. The red comes from impurities in iron oxide, and green comes from chlorite. But its more fun what the stories say which is that the green is the skin of fallen dragons and the red is their blood. That is how the stone got its name. It can be found in Russia, the Czech republic, across Europe, Australia, Brazil, and Madagascar.

Metaphysically this stone provides strength and courage, one should choose to wear a dragon bloodstone if there is a challenging situation that they wish to overcome. To borrow the fierceness and bravery of the dragon that fell to create it.

I chose to do a slightly more complicated bezel setting for this stone mixing different golds and bead sizes to give a neutral but interesting setting for the stone. I wanted to let the greens and reds be the star of the show, but the stone was too fabulous to leave in a completely plain setting.
