Lapis Lazuli Spike Earrings

The Sumerians believed that the spirit of their gods lived within the stone, while the ancient Egyptians saw it as a symbol of the night sky. Since the earliest of times, Lapis Lazuli has been associated with increasing strength, courage, royalty, wisdom, intellect and truth. One of the most famous uses of the stone is in the death mask of King Tutankhamen, where it is inlaid with turquoise and carnelian in bright gold. One of his successors, Cleopatra, was reported to use ground Lapis Lazuli as eyeshadow.

I decided to do a little bit of A/B testing with these. I wanted to try to see if people like short spikes or long spikes more. I had them both out at the last show I went to, neither sold, but I did learn something interesting. The long ones were absolute attention getters. So many people walked over to my table to point at them and talk about them, but they pretty much all agreed that they were too much for them to wear. What I found interesting though was that none of them then went and got the short ones instead. Further testing is needed before I draw any conclusions. I will display them differently at the next show.

I let my followers on tiktok decide which top went with each pair and I am glad I trusted them. I think the quatrefoils would have overwhelmed the smaller pair even though that was my initial plan.

Featuring my sisters as models at the end!
