The Sumerians believed that the spirit of their gods lived within the stone, while the ancient Egyptians saw it as a symbol of the night sky. Since the earliest of times, Lapis Lazuli has been associated with increasing strength, courage, royalty, wisdom, intellect and truth. One of the most famous uses of the stone is in the death mask of King Tutankhamen, where it is inlaid with turquoise and carnelian in bright gold. One of his successors, Cleopatra, was reported to use ground Lapis Lazuli as eyeshadow.
This is my favorite bracelet style to make. It is somewhat popular. I have never made one with lapis lazuli before only with polychrome jasper and kambaba jasper. They both sold relatively quickly, but also they were both green/gold. So, this is a bit of a branch out for me! I love Lapis though so I think it was a good move! I also love blue, it is by far my favorite color so I am a little bit biased. I used 2mm faceted beads made of lapis to augment the edges so it is a bit fancier than the other ones that I have made in the past, the stone was also a bit larger so the band is a little bit wider. I think the whole thing ended up balanced in the end and I am really happy with the results!
