White Fringe Earrings

Before I get too in depth talking about these ones something tragic happened to them. I had them out in a display for memorial day and they got stolen. I have only had four pairs of earrings get stolen so this was actually really upsetting to me.

I don't really like making fringe earrings, but people really like buying them. So I cannot escape the fringe. This was the second pair of fringe I tried to make and I definitely made a few mistakes.

Mistake 1: I pulled the fringe too tight, I was worried that there would be visible string and that that would ruin the overall appearance of the piece. I have since learned that you don't want it so tight. The ideal is all the pieces loosely resting against one another with just the smallest amount of wiggle room. This will result in no visible string but also enough looseness for the fringes to drape loosely.

Mistake 2: I used fireline 6lb thread. This is basically the best thread that I know of. I use it for all of my projects. Unfortunately, it is a bad thread for fringe. I like it so much because it has a certain amount of toughness. Sadly, that toughness is not a good quality in fringe, you really want fringe to be flexible and flowy, you don't want it to hold a rigid shape.

Both of these mistakes are why the fringe kind of sticks out like arms. I still think it was worth making these, it was a great learning experience. I have made a lot of fringe since then and all of them are better!
