I really had fun with these. I think they are super simple and cute. Since they aren't a three dimensional design, they are even lighter than most of my earrings! (Which are never all that heavy anyway.) I loved making this design so much that I actually made a series of four of them. I really had a vision for this design, my goal was for the gold to be across the bottom and the purple across the top. Obviously, the gold ended up more in little triangles on each side, but sometimes things that don't turn out the way we expected turn out even better! The design that is, I love the hard blocks of color, but personally I am not a huge fan of the actual purple that I chose. On its own this is a gorgeous wine color bead. With the black thread running through it it darkens just a touch too much for me. This is my least favorite out of the four in the series. My mother disagrees with me and this is her favorite of the four! Which just proves that everyone has their own opinion and no one is wrong!
Believe it or not I actually made these using peyote stitch instead of brick. Normally flat designs are brick stitch so it was really exciting for me to be able to find one that was made with peyote since I do prefer it! I also thought that the dyed jasper purple beads fit really well with the many purples I have so I was able to make each of the four in the series feel really different and really coherent!
At the end of the series I would love to hear which is your favorite!
