Turquoise is a highly versatile crystal but it is heavily linked to healing properties. The Aztecs believed that it provided protection against negative forces, and thus used it liberally on their ceremonial masks and war gear. Today it is believed to be a "programmable" stone. Whatever healing intentions you program into the stone it will connect with mother nature and return to you.
Most traditionally turquoise is set in silver, but I really like to highlight the more coppery aspects of the stone. I originally bought these two to make a pair of earrings. But, I just decided that they weren't actually a close enough match to make a good pair. The reason you might think at first isn't actually the reason though! I actually don't mind that one of them has a lot more veining and the other one a lot more blue. That still seems reasonable to me because stones aren't always the same. The first reason is because the veining in one of them is quite purple and in the other one quite tan. When I was trying to figure out what color to make the earrings I just couldn't pick out a range that fit both pieces to my satisfaction.
The second reason is because they are actually not the same size. These were some of the first cabs I ever bought and I didn't really know what I was doing. They are the same size if you look at them from the front but the tanner one is much skinnier. That would have made it very difficult to actually make them feel like they were the same size once the beads were in the bezel.
I think I like the one that I made with the purple beads best but what do you think?
